One of the purposes of the law is to change the norms of social conduct. In the past 10 years or so the Israeli legislature and the courts are trying to put an end to sexual harassment in the workplace. It should be remembered that the employee-employer relationship is not a balanced one and that the employee is a subordinate. Since the relationship is not an even one, the employee being subordinate to the employer, the law is more liberal in recognizing sexual harassment in the workplace than in other situations. "Sexual harassment" encompasses a number of different actions including indecent acts, suggestions of a sexual nature, threats which demand an action of a sexual nature etc. The court may award compensation for sexual harassment without proof of damage of not more than the sum of NIS 50,000. In certain circumstances the employer will be liable to pay damages if one of his employees sexually harasses another one.
